Guilin and Yangshuo are two of China’s most popular travel destinations, attracting tourists from around the world with their breathtaking landscapes and unique cultural experiences. Having stayed in numerous hotels across these regions, I’ve put together a comprehensive review of the top 10 accommodations in Guilin and Yangshuo, based on factors such as location, amenities, service, and value for money. Whether you’re looking for a luxurious retreat by the river or a cozy boutique hotel near local attractions, this guide will help you choose the best place to stay during your trip. The prices listed are current rates, and my recommendations weigh the overall experience, including price-to-value ratio.
1. Shangri-La Hotel (香格里拉)
Rating: 5 Stars | Price: ¥700+
Shangri-La in Guilin is one of the finest resort hotels in the city. After considering options like the Sheraton, I found Shangri-La offers better hardware and facilities. The public areas are massive and impeccably maintained, and the service is top-notch. Guests can enjoy various activities inside the hotel, and the backyard opens right onto the scenic Li River. The dining options are varied and delicious, with special touches like welcome snacks and nightly treats that stand out. Perfect for those who love to relax in a hotel or enjoy a laid-back vacation.
Drawback: The rooms are slightly dated, though still comfortable.
2. Qiyun Jiang She (栖云江舍)
Rating: 4 Stars | Price: ¥200+
Located right on the Li River, Qiyun Jiang She is a beautifully designed hotel with a cozy and intimate feel. The roof offers a platform where guests can enjoy stunning sunset views and evening breezes while overlooking the river. The hotel is surrounded by interesting local shops, making it easy to explore the area.
Drawback: This hotel might not suit travelers who prefer a lively atmosphere or are interested in shopping.
3. Gonghou Xiang No. 8 Yard (贡后巷8号院)
Rating: 4.5 Stars | Price: ¥200+
A boutique homestay under the Huazhu Group, this hotel has a design reminiscent of Lijiang-style accommodations. On the third floor, there is a terrace with a great view of the famous Wangcheng Duxiu Peak. The location is central, with easy access to local tea shops and roasted goose eateries.
Drawback: The area outside can be a bit dark at night, but this won’t be an issue for most visitors.
4. Li River Bo Yin (漓江泊隐)
Rating: 3 Stars | Price: ¥1000+
The location of Li River Bo Yin is its biggest advantage. It’s situated near the central square, offering stunning views of the Sun and Moon Towers and Rong Lake from the balcony. A five-minute walk will bring you to the Li River and Taohua River. However, while the location is unbeatable, the room size and layout could be better utilized. The hotel is quieter despite being in the middle of the city, offering peace amidst the hustle.
Drawback: With prices starting at ¥500+, it may not offer the best value for money at this rate.
5. Gang She Rooftop Viewing Hotel (港舍屋顶观景酒店)
Rating: 4.5 Stars | Price: ¥300+
This hotel is perfect for those who love to stay in the heart of the action. Located on a bustling street corner near Dongxi Lane, Gang She offers comfortable rooms with great ventilation and beautiful views. The rooftop terrace is ideal for watching the sunrise or sunset. It’s perfect for travelers who enjoy exploring the lively streets of Guilin.
Drawback: The lobby location is not the most convenient, and the room size is not particularly large.
6. Weibo · Mountain Villa (微泊·山墅)
Rating: 5 Stars | Price: ¥200+
Weibo Mountain Villa is a popular choice for those seeking a trendy, Instagram-worthy spot. Located in the heart of Yangshuo, this hotel boasts an exceptionally beautiful public terrace with a “fairy-tale” like atmosphere. Some rooms come with spacious platforms, perfect for lounging or watching movies while enjoying the view.
Drawback: The hotel’s proximity to the bustling West Street may be a downside for those looking for more peace and quiet.
7. Yu Yuan Jing She (遇源景舍)
Rating: 4.5 Stars | Price: ¥400+
Situated by the Yulong River, this charming hotel offers a range of activities like camping, barbecuing, fishing, boating, archery, and hiking. With a vast lawn and scenic environment, it’s a great place for those who want a more interactive experience. The hotel’s team, consisting mostly of local staff, provides excellent, warm service.
Drawback: The breakfast options are somewhat limited, and there is no coffee available.
8. Qinghui Huiguan (清晖会馆)
Rating: 4 Stars | Price: ¥300+
Qinghui Huiguan is located near the Guilin Thousand Years of Love scenic area. This hotel boasts traditional Chinese courtyard architecture, offering guests an immersive cultural experience. The rooms are spacious, with large balconies and bathtubs. The rural views surrounding the property are breathtaking.
Drawback: Some room details could be improved, and construction work during my stay slightly affected the experience.
9. Yu Yuan · Mi Jing (遇源·觅境)
Rating: 4 Stars | Price: ¥600+
This hotel shares the same owner as Yu Yuan Jing She. It features stunning views, a beautiful manor-style setting, and shared public spaces. The décor has a trendy, Instagrammable vibe, and the rooftop swimming pool is one of its major draws.
Drawback: Due to its modern design, it may not appeal to those looking for a more traditional experience.
10. Xingping Inn (兴坪客栈)
Rating: 3 Stars | Price: ¥300+
Located in Xingping Town, Xingping Inn offers a peaceful retreat with a small garden, ideal for unwinding. The hotel has a rooftop, though it is not particularly well-maintained, and while the rooms are clean, they are simply decorated. The friendly service is a highlight, though the surrounding area offers more competitive options for the price.
Drawback: The hotel’s interior and exterior design are basic, and the location may not be ideal for everyone.
