Litchi River Bay Scenic Area (Lijiang River Bay, 荔江湾) is composed of the vividly shaped Eagle Hawk Mountain, Elephant Trunk Mountain, Five Finger Mountain, Dragon Head Mountain, White Stone Mountain, Red Horse Mountain, White Horse Mountain, and the Litchi River, a tributary of the Pearl River, along with the picturesque ecological landscapes on both banks. Here, the mountains have unique shapes, with peaks standing tall, caves connecting with the waters, and the river winding like a jade belt around the mountains, which is why it is called “Litchi River Bay.” The area has long been celebrated as “the first bay of Guilin’s landscapes, with water within water and mountains within mountains,” and is also known as “the Jiuzhaigou in caves.”

Litchi River Bay Scenic Area is a natural and eco-friendly destination, featuring ancient rock paintings formed millions of years ago, the beautiful Tian Gong Cave, lively dragon boat races, and many other attractions that leave visitors in awe.

Highlights of Litchi River Bay

Mountain Mural (岩画)

The scenic area features a natural mountain mural known as the “Fairy Descending to Earth,” which is considered a wonder of the world and a precious piece of natural cultural heritage. The mural stands approximately 100 meters tall and 40 meters wide, with the human figures in the rock wall appearing naturally formed. The proportions of the figures are harmonious, and the depiction is vivid and expressive, reaching a level of perfection that is truly unparalleled in the world!

Tiangong Cave (天宫)

Tiangong Cave is a unique geological formation characterized by a massive, horizontally split rock top, creating a stunningly flat and impressive summit. The cave is connected to an underground river, shaped by the continuous flow of water. Inside the cave, pools and lakes are scattered throughout, reflecting light and creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. The layered surfaces of the lakes resemble a celestial realm, showcasing breathtaking beauty at every turn.

Additionally, within the cave, a subterranean river flows through the rock, forming a spectacular waterfall at a point of elevation change. This waterfall stands approximately 10 meters tall and spans over 20 meters wide, creating a rare and stunning spectacle of a cave waterfall.

Shuiyue Monastery Ruins (Lingzhi Xian Pavilion)

The Shuiyue Monastery Ruins (Water and Moon Monastery Ruins), also known as Lingzhi Xian Pavilion, were established during the Qianlong period, according to the Chronicle of Lipu County. The name “Shuiyue Monastery” comes from the pavilion being built beneath the rocky cliffs of Qing Mountain and Yaoying Mountain, where “the moon rises above the mountain, reflecting in the pool below.” The temple site is surrounded by towering ancient trees, and the historic architecture is well-preserved, offering a glimpse into the area’s rich cultural heritage.

Qingshan Evening Glow

“Qingshan Evening Glow” is one of the famous Eight Scenic Views of Lipu City. The diverse mountains along both banks of Lijiang Bay reflect the enchanting scenery, creating a picturesque landscape. This area features over ten spectacular peaks, with five of the most impressive being Hongma, Baima, Wuzhi, Yaoying, and Longtou Mountains. When the sunset casts its warm glow, it transforms the surroundings into a breathtaking vista, embodying the extraordinary beauty of “Qingshan Evening Glow.”
