Silver Cave (银子岩) is a mesmerizing karst cave stretching over 1,000 meters, known for its stunning natural formations and breathtaking beauty. For first-time visitors to a karst cave, it’s an unforgettable experience. If you’re planning a trip to Silver Cave, here are some practical tips to make your visit smoother and more enjoyable.
Shuttle Options: Many hotels offer convenient round-trip shuttles to Silver Cave. If your schedule aligns, this is a hassle-free option. Tickets can also be purchased through hotels for around ¥60 (slightly cheaper than the market price of ¥65).
Taxi Advice: Taking a taxi from Yangshuo to Silver Cave is affordable, but getting a ride back can be challenging, especially during holidays. Drivers may raise prices due to limited options. To avoid being overcharged, try visiting during off-peak times. Note that after exiting the park, you’ll need to walk a significant distance to reach the main road to hail a taxi.
Attractions: The main highlight is the cave itself. There are also additional attractions like the cableway and “Memory of the Earth” exhibit, but these require separate tickets.
Cableway: It’s generally not worth the cost. The ride feels precarious, and walking the short ten-minute trail is a safer and quicker option.
Temperature: The cave can feel stifling, even with fans installed to improve airflow. During winter, the temperature difference between the cave and the outside can lead to intense sweating, and in peak seasons, the cave can become overcrowded. Visitors typically spend no more than an hour inside, as the environment can feel suffocating despite its beauty.
What to Bring: Wear lightweight clothing, carry water, and bring tissues for wiping sweat.
Footwear and Walking: The entire visit requires walking, so comfortable shoes are essential. While sedan chairs are available for hire, the cost is high and not worth the experience. Walking is the best and most practical option.
Souvenirs: The exit leads through a long shopping passage with densely packed stores. To save time and avoid impulse purchases, it’s best to keep walking and not stop to browse or buy.
